Step Program - Registration

Stepping is a rising art form and an essential part of our artistic and cultural heritage. A type of percussive dance in which youth will use their entire body as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a mixture of footsteps, spoken word, and handclaps. Youth learn the art of paceing, the importance of teamwork, and essential leadership skills in these dynamic and fun sessions. Stepping has a long and rich tradition in African American communities. It draws movements from African foot dances conceived initially by miners in South Africa as an alternative to drumming, which was banned by authorities.
